Africa College Technical Support consignment of lab equipment reaches Tanzania

As part of the Africa College initiative a small group of technical staff formed the Africa College Technical Support Team with a remit to ship a consignment of unloved but still usable lab equipment to the Department of Crop Science and Production, Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania.

Over the last 12 months old microscopes and various other pieces of small equipment were gathered together and stored at the gardens. They were PAT tested, cleaned and packed for collection. Luckily I found a shipping company who had recently transported by air a consignment of footballs over to Dar es Salaam airport with no problems and as our consignment was also to be sent as a gift the difficulties that can often occur when transporting to Africa were much reduced.
Everything went according to plan and the consignment was collected from Dar es Salaam airport on the 15th February 2010.
Thank you to Pam Gaunt, Jennie Hibbard, Doreen Illingworth, Barbara Johnson, Martin Lappage, Fiona Moulton, Andy North and Will Porter for making this possible. Hopefully we have now opened the channels for an even larger consignment next time.
